In 2021, an Asset Management Company has decided to push forward with their cloud adoption strategy even as the Covid-19 pandemic persists. To ensure that their cloud adoption strategy can be implemented without any complications, the Client has reached out to use to assist them in migrating their applications to the Cloud.
About The Client
The Asset Management Company was conceived as a joint venture between a member of the FORTUNE 500 and Nasdaq-listed global financial services company in the United States and one of Southeast Asia’s leading universal banking groups.
Today, the company serves over 2 million customers across Southeast Asia.
The Challenge
Apart from the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and the government-mandated lockdowns, the Client’s lease on their on-premise data center was due to expire in less that 18 months.
As such, our team is required to plan out and execute a cloud migration strategy that would see us fully migrate 53 applications running on over 140 on-premise services to AWS Cloud within a short period of time.
Analysing and Developing a Migration Plan
To ensure that the migration can be conducted smoothly, we worked together with Amazon Web Services AWS Professional Services (Pro Serv) to discover, assess and define a migration plan and strategy. This is done by analysing the Client’s current state architecture, determining infrastructure and application dependencies, and jointly developing launch plans including go-live and rollback steps.
Bringing the Application to the Clouds
With all the necessary preparations in place, the team then proceeded to execute the migration plan, bringing the compute, storage and database into the Client’s AWS Managed Services (AMS) environment. Automation and AWS CloudFormation templates were used extensively throughout the migration process. Additionally, the team was able to constantly optimise and discover more economic ways to execute the migration, thereby giving added value to the Client during the migration process.
The Results
By adopting a multi-faceted approach which includes people, processes and technology perspectives, we, the Client, AWS Professional Services and AWS Managed Services (AMS) were able to ensure that the application migration was completed successfully over a nine-month period, all while adhering to the budget.
